Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna have started shooting for their film ‘Padman’, which marks the debut of Twinkle’s production banner Mrs. Funnybones Movies.

Akshay is quite literally extended his helping hand for the maiden production venture of his wife as he shared a picture of the couple walking hand-in-hand on the banks of a water body. “Embarking on a new journey, this time with the Mrs. First day of @mrsfunnybones' #Padman directed by R. Balki, need ur love & luck as always," Akshay tweeted along with the picture.

Twinkle, former actress-turned-entrepreneur-cum-author, retweeted his post, and wrote, “And so it begins 'Pad Man'.”

Besides Akshay, the movie will also feature Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte. Makers are looking for a release date late this year or early next year.

‘Padman’ is said to be based on one of the stories from Twinkle’s book, ‘The Legend of Laxmi Prasad'. It is inspired from the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, who campaigned extensively for menstrual hygiene in rural India, and came to be known as India’s ‘Menstruation Man’. ‘Padman’ will chronicle his quest and experiments of making affordable sanitary napkins for women in his village.

Twinkle has previously co-produced Akshay’s films like ‘‘Tees Maar Khan’, 'Thank You', 'Patiala House', ‘Khiladi 786’, and 'Holiday: A Soldier is Never Off Duty'.

Meanwhile, Akshay’s first film of the year ‘Jolly LLB 2’ has been much appreciated by audience and critics. He will be next seen in ‘Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’ opposite Bhumi Pednekar, the shooting for which is complete and the film slated to hit screens on June 2. He will also make his Tamil debut with Rajinikanth starrer ‘2.0’, which will release on Diwali weekend this year.
