Alia Bhatt to play a Muslim girl opposite Vicky Kaushal in ‘Raazi’

Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal have been confirmed for Mehana Gulzar’s ‘Raazi’. Alia will reportedly play a Kashmiri Muslim in the film who gets married to Pakistani army officer. The film will go on floor in July. The movie is based on author Harinder Sikka’s book ‘Calling Sehmat’. 

Karan Johar shared the news on Twitter and wrote, “#Raazi starring @aliaa08 and @vickykaushal09 .....thrilled to collaborate with @JungleePictures and work with the talented @meghnagulzar.”

The movie co-produced by Junglee Pictures and Dharma Productions is based on Harinder Sikka’s novel, Calling Sehmat, a thriller based on a spy who sacrifices all for the sake of her nation.

Kaushal also shared his excitement on Twitter and thanked Karan Johar for welcoming him on board the project. “An honour to be a part of Raazi. Thank You sir,” he wrote.

Alia too, is happy to be part of the project. “This one is going to be truly truly special!!! Wohooo @DharmaMovies @JungleePictures @meghnagulzar @vickykaushal09,”she tweeted.

“I am trying to do something in a new space, recreating India and Pakistan of the ’70s on sets and real locations. A lot of research has gone into getting the period and dialect right. There are some action pieces too. Its work in progress with workshops and reading sessions. It’s only when you agree to something that you eventually end up doing it and live with the consequences. ‘Raazi’ is a synonym of ‘sehmat’ which also means agreeable,” Meghna was quoted in the interview.

The film will be mostly shot in Punjab and Kashmir. A small portion of the film will also be shot in Mumbai.
