Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt’s ‘Gully Boys’ is India’s official Oscars entry

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Gully Boys’ helmed by Zoya Akhtar is India’s official entry to Oscars.

Farhan Akhtar announced the big news on social media on Saturday. “Gully Boys has been selected as India's official entry to the 92nd Oscar Awards". 

Meanwhile, Kalki Koechlin, who also starred in the film, tweeted, "Wow! That is just the best Saturday evening news!"

Celebrated actor-filmmaker Aparna Sen, who headed the jury for this year's selection committee said, "The energy of the film was infectious. It will speak to the audience," Aparna said on 'Gully Boy' being picked by by the jury members. 

The film inspired by the lives and work of rappers Naezy and Divine showcases the story of an aspiring rapper named Murad ( Ranveer Singh), who dreams of making it big in the Indian music industry. Alia Bhatt plays his love interest.  

The film also features Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Raaz and Vijay Varma in pivotal roles. 

Expressing happiness, Ranveer wrote on Instagram, “We are so thrilled that #GullyBoy has been selected as India’s official entry to the 92nd Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category. Thank you to the Film Federation of India, Aparna Sen, Supran Sen, Anindya Dasgupta, members of the jury and a big congratulations to our spectacular cast and crew.”

Actor Hrithik Roshan also reacted to the good news, he wrote, “Amazing.” 'Gully Boy' actor Vijay Varma, designer Manish Malhotra, Gauahar Khan and many others shared their happiness.

Siddhant, who rose to fame for playing MC Sher in the film said, “I am super-excited. My first web show Inside Edge got nominated at the Emmys last year and now my first film is going to the Oscars!! It’s a special moment! It is all about Zoya (Akhtar) ma’am’s genius, Ranveer Singh’s uplifting bromance, and (producers) Ritesh Sidhwani and (Farhan Akhtar) sir’s mentorship! Credit goes to the whole crew.”
